In September 2022, I had the incredible privilege of participating in the One Young World Summit in Manchester, UK, a global event that brings together young leaders from across the world to discuss pressing issues and collaborate on solutions for a better future. The experience was not only life-changing but also deeply transformative in my journey as a Peace Ambassador.
A Global Gathering of Changemakers
One Young World is often described as the Davos for young leaders, and after attending, I can confirm that it truly lives up to the hype. The summit brought together over 2,000 young people from more than 190 countries, each with their own unique perspective and vision for the world. What stood out to me was the diversity, voices from every corner of the globe, each with distinct challenges but united in a shared purpose: to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
As a Peace Ambassador, my role was not just to represent my country or my ideas, but to learn, connect, and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds, working towards peace, justice, and sustainable development. The conversations ranged from climate change to social justice, gender equality to mental health, issues that require urgent attention, and youth leaders are ready to tackle them head-on
Building Connections and Collaborations
Beyond the plenary sessions and inspiring speeches, One Young World offered a unique platform for networking and collaboration. It wasn’t just about listening, it was about connecting with other changemakers and brainstorming ways we can work together to make a real difference. During the summit, I met like-minded individuals who are doing incredible work in their own communities, from youth-led peacebuilding initiatives in conflict zones to programs empowering women in rural areas.
One of the key takeaways from my time at the summit was the realization that collaboration is essential in today’s interconnected world. No single person or organization can solve global problems on their own. The strength of this network of youth leaders lies in our collective will to unite across borders, cultures, and sectors to achieve common goals.
A Personal Journey Toward Peace
For me, being named a Peace Ambassador was an acknowledgment of my commitment to peacebuilding and conflict resolution. It was a moment of personal reflection, realizing that peace is not just the absence of conflict, it’s about creating opportunities for dialogue, understanding, and healing. It’s about finding ways to bridge gaps, whether they’re between individuals, communities, or nations.
What’s Next?
Leaving Manchester, I felt a deep sense of responsibility, not just as a representative of my community, but as part of a global movement. The summit didn’t just provide inspiration—it gave me the tools, connections, and mindset to take my work to the next level. My role as a Peace Ambassador is far from over; it’s just the beginning of a lifelong journey of collaboration, action, and commitment to peace.
As I continue my work in Lebanon and across the region, I carry the lessons I learned in Manchester with me. I’m more determined than ever to push for sustainable change, to amplify the voices of young people in the peace process, and to never lose sight of the vision we all share for a better, more just world.
The One Young World Summit was a turning point in my journey. It showed me the power of youth, the importance of collaboration, and the enduring need for peace in our world. It was a privilege to be part of such an impactful event, and I know that together, with the global youth community, we can achieve the change we so desperately need.
